A few months ago, I was discussing here a Vickers Spitfire sold £ 1.58 million before fees by Bonhams on April 20. It was in working condition.
On September 27 in Melbourne, Bonhams and Goodman sells a Hawker Hurricane, also airworthy. It is estimated 2 MA$.
Both types of British warplanes share the glory of air combats of the Second World War. Heavily armed, the Hurricanes had the specialty to fell the German bombers while the very maneuverable Spitfires attacked the fighters.
The Hurricane MkII model was started in 1940. The copy coming to Melbourne was probably one of the first of them, since it had the honor of participating in the Battles of France and England. It was struck by a shell in 1943 over the Russian tundra, where it was found in 1991.
Thousands of Hurricanes were produced, but barely more than a dozen are now able to fly. This is due to the complexity of its technology, which makes difficult to realize the subsequent parts since the loss of original tooling.
