Made in 1972 under the name Rolls Royce Phantom VI Landaulet four-door, this car was the most expensive that the British firm has ever produced. Catalog price at the time was 700 K £. The auction house Kruse has calculated that if such a vehicle was built today it would be $ 15 million.
Designed specifically for use by heads of state, it was built in five copies, including three for left drive. This is one of them, that belonged to President Bongo (Gabon), which comes in the auction sale held by
Kruse International from 1 to Jan. 4 in Boca Raton, South Florida.
As a whole, the Phantom VI was produced in 374 copies from 1968 to 1991. Its look was the most typical of a Rolls-Royce car, but it was huge: 6 meters long, 3.7 meters of wheel base, 2.5 tons.
Our Landaulet is estimated $ 2 million, lot 796, introduced on
January 3. This price is ambitious: the release of the auction house said that the last transaction on this model, conducted about two years ago in London, was $ 1.5 million.
