The traditional sale of cars organized by Bonhams on December 20 in Gstaad opens the season of winter sports for the art market. Coming from the same estate, the top lots are two Ferraris made in the 1950s for endurance competitions.
Lot 205 is a Ferrari 121LM Spyder of 1955. This six-cylinder model was regarded as the fastest car that year. The copy presented for sale had been raced by the American driver Phil Hill. Coachworked by Spyder Corsa, this car is nicely proportionate and, of course, a great red Ferrari. It expects 4.7 MCHF.
Lot 206 is a Ferrari 212 Export Spyder of 1951. It participated in the Mille Miglia and raced in Monaco. Coachworked by Carrozzeria Motto, it is estimated 2.8 MCHF. In simpler shape than its colleague above, it is dressed in metallic gray.
As always for racing cars, the information is extremely detailed in the catalog.
