WORLDAUCTION

Inviting you to follow AUCTION NEWS for immersing into WORLD HISTORY

Continuing my explorations into the small auction houses, I introduce now Kenny Scharf, painter, sculptor and installation artist. Working in New York he is inspired by folk art and cartoons.

On July 23, RoGallery sells a bronze entitled Yinyang Noselock, about 60 cm high, made in 1999, estimated $ 40 K. Two elements shaped as tapered drops are bound together by the nose. Eyes reduced to pupils in holes and excessive mouths show the aggressive opposition of yin and yang. One of the elements is connected to the base, the other is only held by the "nose".

The simplification of forms and the humor attest to the influence of Keith Haring. Scharf had been his friend.

The sale takes place online, but lots can be seen by appointment at Long Island NY.

Unsold. The estimate range was tight ($ 10 K between the low estimate and high estimate). It is almost always the evidence of a too high reserve price.

This lot allowed LiveAuctioneers to draw attention to this New York auction house, which is familiar with the work of Kenny Scharf: several works by this artist are currently for sale on RoGallery's website.
