Marc Newson is a designer of seats, installed since 1997 in London. In such jobs, shape researches are real technical feats, and the created objects compete with contemporary sculptures. Newson is also represented by Gagosian Gallery.
On June 14, 2006, Sotheby's recorded 970 K$ costs included on a prototype of the Lockheed Lounge of 1986, made in aluminum and fiberglass, with back. Another one was sold 750 K£ inclusive by Christie's on October 14, 2007.
In 1989, when he was in Sydney, Newson created the Orgone Lounge, a stretch lounge without back whose shape was inspired by surfboards. The Orgone Stretch Lounge, which is a modified version, date of 1993.
At number 32 of the sale of Sotheby's in London on October 18 there is one of the two artist's proofs, from a total issue of 8, of the Orgone Stretch Lounge. Made in aluminum and enamel, it looks more like a Formula 1 car than to a seat. It is stamped Marc Newson Pod Edition and serial number 2 / 0. It is estimated 400 K£, lot 32.
On May 25, 2006, the Orgone Stretch Lounge 3 / 6 was sold 450 K$ before fees by Phillips De Pury in New York.
Of course, Newson also makes surfboards. One of them, in nickel, was sold 220 K$ inclusive by Sotheby's in New York on February 14, 2008.
