This jewel, number 164 in the sale of Tajan in Monte Carlo on July 29, attracts the eye on the back cover of La Gazette de l'Hotel Drouot this week. It had not been included in the press release announcing the sale (this is perhaps a late entry in the catalogue). Too bad, I do as if I had found it!
It is a necklace of diamonds holding in succession a white diamond and then a large natural colour bright yellow diamond in heart shaped cut weighing 10 carats. The purity is not communicated, but this jewel is signed Harry Winston, which is a guarantee of quality. The total weight of white diamonds is 38 carats.
In recent months, color diamonds highlighted jewel auction sales. Here are some results of less than one year, including fees, recorded over time in my blog:
9.2 MCHF Christie's Geneva, May 14, a blue diamond of 13.4 carats.
8 MUS$, Sotheby's Hong Kong, October 8, a flawless blue diamond of 6 carats.
5.2 MCHF Sotheby's Geneva, May 15, a blue pear-shaped diamond of 3.7 carats.
2.8 M € Guizzetti and Collet, Reims, December 8, a light blue emerald-cut diamond of 6.5 carats.
2.96 MCHF Christie's Geneva, November 15, a red diamond of 2.26 carats.
2.7 MCHF Sotheby's Geneva, May 15, an oval purpled pink diamond of 5 carats.
1.8 M$ Sotheby's New York, April 17, a yellow diamond of 39 carats.
As you see, these are not the yellow diamonds that are most sought. Indeed, they are not the most rare.
That of Tajan has the merit of providing me with an excuse to remind these auction results of diamonds presented single or on rings. As a necklace, it should logically be more expensive than if it was presented alone. The estimate extremely tight (330 to 340 K €) surprises me.
