I was reading your discussion on The Friend Women of Toulouse-Lautrec. I like the notion that the artist's perspective is included in some sort of 3 dimensional layer. I'm sure it is relatively common, but the way it is done can be better or worse. I'm reminded of Dali where you see some character with a apple for a head. I'm pretty sure this was a matter of perspective from the artist, maybe imagined- maybe real- but there just happened to be an apple in the way of that character's face! For me, that comedy brings out the luster of the perspective at play. Kind of like how kids pinch people's heads or get their fingers to turn into hot dogs by holding them together close while looking past them. Of course, even with the visual trick, there's no reason to call the resulting illusion a hot dog. Why not call them merged fingers? I think there's a little of the irreverent comedy in interpretation.
With the work you were referring to in The Friend Women, I can see how the sexual connotation makes the third person perspective so much more evident.
