Some rules for a total respect of the laws of intellectual property

I invite you in this network to describe the exceptional objects which you located in the catalogues of future auction sales.

It is obvious that this cultural and ludic exercise must be done with the necessary clearness and in all the respect of the law. You must thus quote your sources of information so that a reader can find them, at least at the date where you emit your text.

You should not recopy significant lengths of the text which is used by you as source of information. If you are brought to recopy one or two sentences, explain clearly why. You will be thus in accordance with the copyright laws on this text, as defined as the right of quotation.

NEVER publish photography without you to be assured that you have all the rights about it, that you discharged your payment with the ADAGP or the other beneficiaries, for the author of work if it is not in the public domain, for the photographer, the author of the catalogue of the auction sale. Also take care to respect the moral rights. And if you have a doubt about any of these rights, ABSTAIN from publishing photographs.

On the other hand, the links into the sites where you found information are welcome, when they are the sites of the auction houses. I think that none will contradict me on this point. Avoid the links into the data bases (some prohibit it).

There too, some rules are to be respected:

NEVER put links into a page or a file from where the reader will not be able to go up in other pages of the site. To guide the reader towards such a file, put the link into the page where he will be able to click into this file, with if needed an explanation so that he easily finds this link on the web page.

By courtesy towards the reader, never put links into a page where the access requires a log in, even if this one is free. If you want to guide the reader towards one of these pages, put the link into the last page where he will be able to go freely, and clearly explain in YOUR text that to go beyond a log in is required.

These rules take a long time to expose, but they are very simple to practise. By learning how to respect them, you will have the free ming to make the exercise with added value that I invite you to perform on this network.

Of course, do not hesitate to contact me for any question.

Pierre
