World Art Auction Review

Belle of the Thames

She was born on a construction site of the River Thames to 1894, and has devoted her career to carry passengers on the River Severn. Rescued in poor condition on her beloved Thames in 1980, she has been reconstructed and so was awarded an entry in the National Historic Ships Register.

Her name is "Belle", she is 23 meters long, can accommodate 70 passengers, and is made quite smart to ask her new owner to start a new river life. Bonhams, in its press release devoted to Belle, appeals to buyers around the world, stating: "No need to change the pictures on the walls - just change the scenery through the windows."

Indeed Belle is for sale, lot 640 of the Bonhams auction in Henley-on-Thames on July 19 . Pretty as a diva, she does not disclose her price in the catalogue, but Bonhams expects "six figures" (in pounds).

What can we imagine better than Henley to sell a boat of the Thames? Since 1839, this small town west of London organizes rowing races that are the most famous of England (Henley Royal regatta), and for 22 years Bonhams makes a yearly sale of curious, friendly and extraordinary items, as this year this model of locomotive named Hercules that I mentioned in the Sciences group.

Belle was not sold. As the estimate had not been published, this does not provide any useful information!

Your inputs are welcomed

For the time being, I am the only author writing in this network.
My end goal is that my inputs are superseded by yours on the subjects where your knowledge is better than mine.
It must be easy: as a generalist, I am specialist of nothing.
If I meet this goal then I shall "only" act as editor.
